I cannot believe all of the interesting people that I have met along the way in my long career. Remember when I said, you will never know what will become of people, so be nice to everyone? Here’s a great example!

Well, about 33 years ago, I met this woman named Esther Weingarten. She lived in the same apartment building as my boyfriend”s sister. . I don’t know what it was, but there was something special about Esther. She was fun and warm and was very inviting.Whenever I was invited, I went up to Esther’s apartment. She was always curious about my job at CBS This Morning, and I was just interested in her as an interesting person. I was really young, but I knew that Esther seemed different- she was an entrepreneur – I just didn’t know what to call it back then!  She was best friends with my boyfriend’s  sister and they were talking about going into the nail polish business together. I really couldn’t relate. I mean, there was really no other nail polish around except Revlon, who needed more nail polish? But, Ester and Boyfriend;’s sister (don’t wanna name names) were gung ho about this new nail polish business, and who was I to voice my opinion. I didn’t think it would become anything more than a hobby, so I just listened to their plans!

I was working at CBS News and of course was too “hard news” (ha ha) to relate to nail polish.. I mean how could anyone make money doing that????? WRONG!!!!

Well, before I get to the end of this story, which is FABULOUS, my boyfriend’s sister and Esther had a tremendous fight and broke up their business and their friendship. That did not deter Esther.. she decided to go at it alone. She changed the original name they both had chosen, and invented her own name for the company. Today her company of nail polish colors is called ESSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (have you heard of it, or are you living under a rock???)

I am telling you, I knew Esther (now ESSIE) would be a success.. and just to give you an idea.. in 2009 Essie sold about 28 million dollars worth of nail polish. Hello????? why didn’t we all think of that???

I ran into Essie 2 Saturdays ago at a small Italian restaurant on 3rd Avenue. It just happened to be across the street from the white brick building where I had met her more than 30 years ago. I was sooo happy to see her. She is a beautiful and classy woman who is so humble that you would NEVER know the success she has found. She is a true rags (well not rags, but regular) to riches story.

Anyway, we were both so happy to see each other. I was with my best friend Lauren who now lives in Boca (you know she was excited to meet ESSIE! And Lauren’s mom, who was equally impressed that I knew “THE” ESSIE!

We couldn’t stop talking and laughing about the old days. Essie invited me to an opening,( WHICH IS TONIGHT ) for her FIRST FLAGSHIP STORE IN NYC.  We kissed goodbye and told her I would bring cameras tonight from the show and run the piece tomorrow. (which I wlll).

Essie and her husband left the restaurant, Lauren, her Mom and I finished our lunch, wine and dessert and asked for a check. The owner of the restaurant came over and said, “Essie paid for your lunch!”. I said, “that’s so nice, but we must leave the tip”. He said, “No, Essie gave us a generous tip for your lunch!”.

Essie is one classy lady! She has not let her success change her. She remembers people from her past.I adore her and of course I love her nail polish sooo much. I wouldn’t dare wear another brand!!

Tonight Jane Hanson and myself, along with a camerawoman are going to shoot the opening of ESTHER’S (ESSIE’S FIRST FLAGSHIP STORE IN NYC).  I couldn’t be happier for a person. When you look up the Salt of the earth in the dictionary, ESSIE WEINGARTEN’S PICTURE IS THERE.

I have heard from a lot of you who are interested in my bootcamp-media training day- Aug 4th. Please contact me at Amy@Rosenblumtv  if you are interested.

Jane and I will be sending more information tomorrow to all of you who have gotten in touch with me already! It’s gonna be fun!

Can’t wait to pick new polish colors tonight!! And, who by the way chooses the names of those polishes???
