I know I cannot believe that I am the only baby boomer who resisted all the new technology when it first appeared out of no where. At least that’s how I felt. I specifically remember the day . I was a producer on the Sally Show. I was typing on my trustworthy selectric  typewriter, which by the way, I was really happy with. They announced that our beloved typewriters were going bye bye and we would each be getting our own brand new computer. Oh my God I thought. I love my typewriter, I am fast on it, I don’t want and I don’t need a computer!!!

Everyone was sent off to computer class, I still resisted. I loved my typewriter and didn’t really understand why we needed to learn about computers. Here’s where my problems began. I got promoted and got an assistant (not a big problem, rather nice) but the problem was, I was happy I didn’t have to go near that computer anymore. My assistant who was about 21 was REALLY comfortable on it and was anxious to learn. I was so far behind already, I just figured forget it.

One day someone told me about email. Oh yeah, I am really social.I would enjoy that. That was easy! I was using my computer. Okay, I get this… I am on the computer.. But why do I have to learn to cut and paste???? Ugh!

Next up was Facebook. What was that?? Why would I need that? My kids told me it was only for them and I better not go on it. Everyone around me was going on.. I decided to try it. I liked it. I got it. Fun! I am on the computer!

I had it down to a science. I was using my computer more!!!  I even got a laptop, which my brother tried to help me with. I was getting it!

Next someone started talking about this thing called TWITTER. What was that??  My first thought.. “I am not getting involved with TWITTER. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS!! Why do we need Twitter… why do I need to “tweet” when I can communicate on my beloved Facebook!!!(I still didn’t know how to cut and paste, but  I was proficient on Facebook and emailing!! )

Well, that didn’t last long. I have been on twitter now for about 6 months.. not that long, but I love it.. I actually have almost 2,000 followers and now I see why it’s better sometimes than Facebook! PLEASE FOLLOW ME-@AMYROSENBLUMTV   (I cannot believe that I am the same person who back then was afraid of that old big computer the one with the big back, like an old TV.

Now my son Adam is talking about instagram.. oyyyy, I guess I will have to learn to do that soon, I cannot say no anymore! But still don’t fully understand what’s so great about Instagram, when I can take a picture on my blackberry???? EXPLAIN!

The one thing that I am still holding onto is my blackberry! My kids tease me that they are obsolete, that I MUST have an iPhone.  6 months ago I said, “I love my blackberry, I don’t need an iPhone!”. I think I will probably get one in a few weeks!! I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have come a long way! When I was watching “Downton Abbey” with my son Adam, he remarked that I was like the Maggie Smith Character, who was afraid of electricity and the phone when it first arrived at their house! I had to laugh. HE WAS RIGHT!!

Listen, it’s not easy keeping up, but we all HAVE to. It’s about being relevant. In this ever changing world of ours, even the style of our TV shows changes. I have learned to keep up, no matter how hard I fight it!

Thank god for my boys who constantly tease me… they have lovingly made me keep up as much as I possibly can.

By the way, what’s PINTEREST?? AND DO I REALLY NEED IT????

 OYYYY NOT EASY!

ANYWAY, ONE THING I DO KNOW IS GOOD TV…
