Last night the ladies of New York Live had a wonderful Spa night – compliments of our wonderful friend, Essie Weingarten (yes, that ESSIE, the queen of nail polish). Because our little show is coming to an end, I thought it would be nice for the girls (and Nick, our Supervising Producer) to get together for a little pampering. Essie was so generous and offered her new flag ship store on 65th street (between Mad and Park) for mani’s for everyone! It was such a nice night. In addition to manicures, they had wine, (A MUST) crackers and cheese and made us feel really special.

Even though the show is over, I believe and have always believed that the morale of a show is so important. When I was the Executive Producer of the Sally Show and then MAURY, I  ran the show with a “cheerleader” mentality. The ratings from the day before would come in at about 9 am and when they were high, I would make signs and hang them all over the office! Everyone who has worked with me knows this was a ritual! It makes people happy and makes people want to come to work. When the office is a happy place it just makes work not feel so much like “work”!

Being the boss is not always easy, but I did always try and be fair and FUN. I believe in creativity and I am not a major rule person. I would always say, “There are no rules”. What I meant by that is, don’t get in your own way. Just because you did your show one way one week, you can change it up and do something completely different the next. I also let people have space. I think bosses who micromanage do a disservice to their staffs. People need to flourish, and I am grateful that on the whole, most of my bosses (with a few exceptions) let me be me and I tried to do the same.

Today the office is filled with 17 women who have an array of beautifully colored nails! If you know Essie’s colors, you can only imagine what our nails look like!! Now I have an office of hard working happy women! Now, what can I do for the men????????  Good Morale all around!

I want you all to enjoy the career that has been so much fun for me too! And you can!
